Double Check

Is the Medicare card mailing address alert a scam?

The message someone received
MEDICARE ALERT: Your new plastic Medicare card is ready but we need to confirm your mailing address. Call our enrollment line at [number removed] within 48 hours or your benefits may be interrupted.
Why it is a government impersonation
This is a Medicare impersonation scam. Medicare does not text or call about new cards and never threatens to interrupt benefits. The call center asks for your Medicare number and personal details to commit fraud.
What to do
Do not call the number. If you have a Medicare question, call the official number on the back of your card (1-800-MEDICARE). Delete the message.
